Once we can admit to this understanding and give recognition to the Earth that we, along with all other living things, are her children and owe our very existence to her, our thinking and perception changes. Subsequently, so does our attitude toward one another. For what are we? We are all made of the same thing -- LOVE. So who is there to fight? Who is there to cheat? Who do we exploit and steal from? Only Ourselves!

For Native Americans, knowledge of the Sacred Laws was encapsulated in a custom which forms an integral part of life -- the "Give-Away". The concept of the Give-Away is a practical expression of the Sacred Law of Love which is at the very heart of the Sacred Laws. To begin to understand this, one must observe the operation of the Give-Away.

In Nature, every lake has its source -- an inlet from which it is fed, and an outlet by means of a stream or by evaporation. Trees and plants receive nourishment from the soil and energy from the Sun and give of their fruit in response. The Give-Away is not limited to the material world -- by giving of your time, people will have time for you. By giving love, love is returned to you in some way. The Give-Away is a principle that affects the quality of life -- All of Life.

The Healer recognizes that the whole of Creation is thus a giving of itself, and a receiving back into itself through what has been freely given. Giving and receiving is cyclic because the Great Spirit is not only the Source of all that is, but the Container of everything that exists. The Give-Away is, quite simply, an expression of the very heart of the Sacred Laws.

Great Spirit can be considered as the Great Mind or Great Mystery and all that exists can be considered as a thought within that Great Mind. In creating a material universe, Great Spirit put limits upon Itself. Those limitations were the very laws of Its Own Being, and the laws of mankind's being. The laws put a sacred "hoop" or "ring-pass-not" around what has been created and has organized it all into a comprehensive and self-supporting WHOLE. The laws are what separate Cosmos from Chaos.

The Sacred Laws

1. Everything is an inseparable part of the one Whole.
2. The universe is the sacred expression of the Will and Mind of the Source and has been created with Love and ensouled with Life.
3. Everything is characterized energy and is inter-changeable with everything else. Therefore mind/matter/spirit are simply different levels of the same energy.
4. All energy in motion follows the Law of Harmonics: it will achieve maximum efficiency with minimum effort, and ultimately returns to its source.
5. All things in the universe have life, but they experience it in different ways. Nothing is truly "dead" because there is no such things as no-motion.
6. Everything is made up of the same primary elements and receives the same energies, but individual "beings" organize themselves differently for they each seek to express an idea in the mind of Great Spirit in a special way. Everything evolves within the law of its own being.
7. Everything evolves by continually seeking harmony and balance with everything else.
8. The only constant in the universe is change.
9. Everything is completely and intimately linked to everything else, and all are subject to the sacred laws.
10. Everything is born of woman. Everything comes into existence through the feminine principle.
11. Nothing must be done to harm the children, for eternal life is through the children.
12. Circular motion is the law of everything. Lineation is an illusion -- a man-made law. Absolute beginnings and endings do not exist because there are no true beginning or endings.

"Be certain of nothing...for let it be understood that as soon as you are certain about anything you may be certain that you are wrong!"

The thirteenth law is about the shifting of energy from one dimension to another. Once we comprehend that, our whole dimension of existence and life experiences is changed! This is often referred to as the Law of the Lotus Pad -- just when you think you have it all figured out, someone moves the lotus-pads and you find yourself in deep water once again!

This is part of the great "unfolding" of the knowledge of healing -- of the necessity of Reconnecting with Nature -- which is taking place around the world and throughout the entire universe today. It is happening among all peoples of all races, tongues and cultures. It is opening out like the petals of a flower after a long, long period of dogmatism, bigotry, prejudice and persecution during which it has been clasped tight like a bud and protected within the oral traditions of the indigenous people who live close to the Earth and Nature. The purpose of this unfolding is to bring the knowledge and understanding within the reach of all whose minds are open enough to receive it. For if the Earth is to be healed of the sickness that mankind's folly has heaped upon her, there must come about a dramatic change in our perception of life and a realization of its true purpose.

To thrive and endure is the purpose of all life forms. Each is developing through its experience toward that which is greater than it is now. Each is evolving through the pain of change. Each from its mortality is establishing its immortality.
