One of the oldest transformational tools throughout history and throughout every culture is the practice of Firewalking. The medicine people, priests, shaman and warriors have walked across hot coals to honor the element of fire and bring healing and strength to their people. This powerful ritual is actively practiced today by Eastern Orthodox Christians in Greece and Bulgaria, fakirs, Hindus in South Asia, indigenous peoples of South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore, Taoists and Buddhists in Japan and tribes throughout Polynesia, Bali and Fiji.
In the Kalahari desert the !Kung people believe that the spirit world is a part of all aspects of !Kung life, determining health, death, and the abundance of food and water. They believe that misfortune, death, or sickness can be directed at a person via invisible arrows shot by spirits, but that if they can influence the spirits and stop the arrows, they can stop adverse things from happening. This healing dance with the fire is the healers' way to stop and remove the invisible arrows causing the problems within their people. The healers dance around a fire until their concentration puts them into a trance state. The dancing begins on a joyful note, but becomes more intense as the night continues. The dancing warms up the n/um, the healing fire deep within the belly of each dancer, and the vapors produced begin to rise through the spinal column, eventually exhibiting itself as sweat. Before entering trance, the healers stare intently into the fire, their bodies tense, rigid - their footsteps heavy. Sweating intensifies as their bodies begin to spasm and veins protrude from their necks and faces. They may enter the trance suddenly or gradually, leaping and somersaulting before collapsing, or staggering and falling. The trance often includes the healers' dancing in the fire. Community members try to protect the healers during this trance state, rubbing their bodies to keep them warm, keeping the sweat shining. Finally, the healers rise and lay their hands on the community members, curing illnesses. Each community member will be touched, and anyone with a significant illness will receive prolonged attention. Occasionally the healers will resume dancing to strengthen the trance.
In all traditions, Firewalking marks a time of change -- a time of healing and transformation.
To Dance With Fire...
As children, one of the first lessons we learn is that Fire burns. The lesson goes deep, encompassing not only the burning heat of the physical fire but on even deeper levels, transforming into a fear of the fires of our own passions, our desires, and our dreams. Firewalking is one of the oldest and most powerful rituals for healing and more specifically for confronting and facing fear to find the power of one's inner strength.
In times of uncertainty and global change such as we are experiencing today, it is crucial that we actively face our fears and reclaim our own innate power to heal our selves and direct our destiny -- to move from a space of acting out of fear into a space where all actions are based in the strength of love, joy and compassion. The Firewalk is an incredible experience that offers a moment -- an intense spark of chance - an incredible gift that will completely transform life forever!
To witness or to participate in a firewalk ritual offers a powerful experiential chance to break limiting belief systems and offers the tools to make the shifts you desire in your life to become permanent. Whether you choose to dance with the fire or not, attending the ritual will change your life forever.
...Is to Move Beyond Fear
Our fear of fire is so deep seated, it is a major player in our core belief system. The first time I watched as a friend steped onto the 1,200 degree bed of coals, something inside of me snapped -- suddenly, one of my core beliefs had shattered, sending shockwaves throughout all of my core beliefs. In that moment the limiting structures within my thinking were shattered...I had just witnessed what I "knew" was impossible!
Our often misguided ego loves being right and having things be safe within our own belief system...the ego cannot handle shattered belief systems that support it. Whenever something threatens our ego, it pumps out a wave of fear to deter us from changing in any way that goes against what it has grown comfortable with. Fear is a very powerful emotion...and, at times can be a great friend and a powerful motivator...but it is also our greatest limitation to growth.
The Firewalk teaches us that FEAR is simply False Expectations Appearing Real. It shows us how to view fear and all emotion simply, as energy, that can be used to support us rather than hinder our growth and ability. We learn, through this extraordinary experience, to take our deepest fears and transform them into impetus for change. All too often, participants find that their core belief system was inherited from their parents and may not necessarily be based in truth. The Firewalk can, and does, bring these restricting and misguided beliefs out into the light.
The Power of the Fire becomes the Teacher
Fire teaches us to feel the passion within and act on it -- to honor the flames within and to confidently walk through all of the Firewalks in our lives -- to fully understand that the real challenge is to live our lives fully, with purpose . . . with passion . . . with joy!
What do you want to energize in your life . . . right now! . . . in this moment?
Come...join us in this ancient, sacred gathering as we open ourselves to deep healing and change as we dance with the fire of life!
