To the Native American, all of Nature, including the land itself, has a spirit – the land is alive. For those who understand and are in harmony with Nature, the land and it’s ways are an essential part of their lives. This relationship is reflected in the shapes and forms of the traditions and ceremonies of all indigenous people . . . as they honor Mother Earth and all who live on her . . . the two-leggeds, the four leggeds, the winged ones, the creepy crawly ones, those that live in the lakes, rivers and oceans, rocks, trees, and plants.

I have always found great peace and strength in this relationship for it is my connection to Mother Earth as well as to the spirits and to Creator. I am brought closer to Mother Earth and all my relations each time I stoop to enter the low dome of the sweat lodge. I see the Oneness of All in the red glow of the rocks and the hiss of the steam as the water is poured over them. I see the entire universe in the pipe bowl when I pray to the four directions, to Mother Earth and Tunkasila . . . Wankan Tanka . . . inviting all to join with me each time I pray with the Chanupa. As I go though my life, I always return to this relationship . . . for Mother Earth is my minister and my bible . . . my teacher and my counselor. . . and my strength.

I welcome you to Nature’s Island where you will find an intentional international community of men and women who are dedicated to integrative living and helping others find balance and harmony through education and enrichment of mind, body and soul.

Tany’an yahi y’elo – I am so glad you came!

May You Walk in Beauty with Great Spirit

Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

  • Say what you mean and mean what you say.
  • Let Yes mean Yes and No mean No.
  • Know that it is perfectly OK to have an unexpressed thought!
  • Remember, words have the power to heal and they can also do irreparable harm.

Don't Take ANYTHING Personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dram, their own illusion. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

Don't Make Assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

  • When you Assume you make an Ass out of U and Me!

ALWAYS Do Your Best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self judgement, self abuse and regret.

  • Forget woulda, coulda, shoulda - what is done is done - stay in the moment and move forward from here.

Join us for this Dynamic and Intense Two-Day Workshop

A Life Changing Journey through Living the Four Agreements

We request that you Please read the book before attending this workshop.

March 19 and 20, 2011

9:00 am to 9:00 pm each day

We will end Saturday's session with a Firewalk and Sunday's session with a Lodge Ceremony, a Sacred Sweat in Celebration of Life and the Spring Equinox

We humbly request that you bring an old blanket or quilt to lay over the lodge to add your love and healing energy to the prayers offered within.

This workshop is usually taught over the course of four weekends.  Because of the times we are living in, we are condensing these teachings into an intense and dynamic 2-day workshop. We will explore why Living the Four Agreements can be a challenge as we delve deep into our early lives to root out old agreements and realize how we learned to live according to the agreements that were rooted in the opinions of others and their reactions to us. We will look at how, out of years of habit, we have not paid attention to how we express ourselves and how the responses that come from our mouths are often automatic - learned from years of living by the agreements that were instilled in us during childhood. We will begin to see how those old agreements have led us to make false assumptions that we are not even consciously aware of which then lead us to take things personally -- things that don't have anything to do with us.

This is the Challenge of the Spiritual Warrior. For those who decide to adopt the Four Agreements and create love and happiness in their lives, the Journey is Spiritual because it is about living YOUR life. However, it is also referred to as "war" because you are challenging all of the old fear-based beliefs and agreements within your own mind . . . it will not be instantaneous . . . it will take more than a weekend to break free of your own layers of fear, the tyranny of your own inner judgement, old emotional habits. BE the Warrior . . . dare to live your life with unconditional love, gratitude and respect for yourself . . . for others . . . and for the earth that we live upon.

Medicine Wheel

"Herein Lies Our Medicine"
artwork by Litina Egungun

The Universe is My Country

The Human Family is My Tribe

~ Kahlil Gibran

A common thread that bonds all indigenous peoples is the ideal of wellness.  "Wellness can be defined as the state when the mind, the body, and the spirit are all connected and in balance. One cannot be separated from the other. The Medicine Circle -- having no beginning and no end -- represents this concept of harmonious unity.

The Medicine Wheel or Medicine Circle is symbolic of the Great Wheel of Life. Respect and understanding of Indigenous People's concepts of creation and its interplay with life and nature are foremost. The Medicine Wheel gives language to archetypal images of the "Four Great Directions" of the "Circle of Life", or "Circle of Law". Within this circle are all forms of life: animal, plant, mineral, human; held in four elements of nature: earth, air, fire, and water. Understanding these forms and how they manifest in the People's view of the world gives language and understanding to the complexities of self, and our individual and community relation to the world.

Reconnecting With Nature PDF Print E-mail

"Nurture your felt love or respect of nature. Never deny it. That love is nature's voice, our origins in nature, the eons, the purifying intelligence, beauty and diversity of natural systems sustaining us in their perfection. It is the root source of our deeper hopes and ideals.

Our excessive disconnection from nature's attractive and intelligent perfection underlies the insanity of our suffering, greed and destructiveness. Unadulterated natural systems seldom suffer them.

To recover our sanity, we must reconnect our psyche with nature's genius and restore its strength and peace in our consciousness, thoughts and soul. A readily available Natural Systems Thinking Process empowers us to do this."

Healing Traditions and the Law of One PDF Print E-mail

In traditions passed down from our ancestors, we have come together

  • To Teach
  • To Share
  • To Help YOU find Balance and Healing in your Life.
Represented here are healing traditions of indigenous peoples from around the world -- traditions that have proven to be effect for thousands of years and techniques that modern science has only begun to scratch the surface of in its quest to explore and explain how and why these methods work.

Just Exactly What Is Medicine?

To all indigenous peoples, medicine refers to the spirit power of a life form. It is the ability to make a harmonious whole. It is the inner knowledge. It is Knowing.

Traditionally, a medicine man or woman is one who is empowered with knowledge and the ability to bring about healing. To many of the indigenous peoples, the Healers are the Shaman, the Priests, and the Holy Ones.  In other traditions they are the elders of the tribe. In truth, a Healer is simply one who understands that Life is Everything, one who has direct personal experience of realms of non-ordinary reality and who is able to willfully function within those realms. A Healer is primarily a "harmonizer" -- one who brings harmony at all levels -- physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual -- and in a particular way unique to him/herself.

The medicine men and women, the Healers of today, like their ancestors, practice the principles and techniques which involve working with the powers of Nature that exist both inside and outside the individual self as both manifest form and unmanifest potential. Project NatureConnect offers us a way of learning this by direct personal experience. Traditionally, the methods of the Healers transcend the intellect because they form part of the ancient Science of the Spirit and Healing and Balance is essentially an activity of the Spirit.

All healers, medicine people and shaman operate in accordance with Sacred Spiritual Laws and principles. These laws are of Cosmic origin and are universally applicable. They are known by all cultures as Sacred Laws and are set apart from the "laws of man". They provide guidelines under which everything in the universe operates within the limitations of time and space.

Although the Sacred Laws never change, they allow all things -- tangible and intangible -- to develop in harmony in an infinite number of patterns. To circumvent any Sacred Law results in imbalance. Harmony can only be restored when alignment with orderly guidance is re-established. Knowledge of the Sacred Laws helps the Healer to bring about healing for they are the keys to harmonization.

Throughout the universe there is a striving for union of Yin and Yang -- the urge for the passive feminine and active masculine principles to unite as one. It is through this fusion of Yin and Yang that new life-forms come into existence and growth, development, abundance and replenishment take place.

The whole of creation from its lofty heights to its very depths is built on the Power of LOVE. Love is both a power -- an energy which has the ability to perform work -- and a "substance". A substance is defined in the dictionary as "a material or essence from which things are made". Therefore, the Cosmos has not only come into being through the Power of Love, it is actually composed of the very essence of Love. That realization constitutes within itself a whole missing dimension in mankind's understanding of both material and spiritual reality.

LOVE is the power that brought everything that IS into existence and it is the very substance from which that which IS was made. And, LOVE has identity. It has a "Name", though long "forgotten" by mankind. Sacred writings revered by many state that "God is Love", but few recognize the LOVE is what that GOD is! All things were made BY THAT LOVE and OUT OF THAT LOVE, and IN THAT LOVE we live and move and have our being -- as does every other life-form which, because of THAT LOVE, is therefore our "relative". Aho Mitakuye Oyasin!

Mankind's relationship with the Earth, with other life-forms, and with each other is gravely out of balance through ignorance of that realization. We take without asking and offer the Earth nothing in return. We deny that the Earth is our Mother yet our physical bodies are made from her substance and fashioned, nurtured and sustained by her -- as are all our relations!. We are ALL in existence because of LOVE.

The Healer KNOWS this and does not deny it.
